Lose Virtual NIC when Mods are made to Physical NIC

Whenever I make a change to the physical NIC the virtual NIC stops working.
Yesterday I noticed the physical NIC was running at 100/half. So we modified
the port on the switch and set the NIC to 1000\Full. the physical NIC worked
fine, but now the virtual NIC will not connect to the network. I ran into
the same problem once when I upgrade the NIC drivers on the physical machine.
In that case I ended up rebuilding the whole thing.
