Hi,

I am checking some performance on a couple of VMs running W2k3 R2 SP2
on MSVS2k5 R2 SP1.

These machines each have 100% reserved capacity.

When I check the Processor Queue Length in the VM, I see processor
queuing, but when I check the queuing for the physical processor,
there is no queuing at all. Are the values in the VM valid at all? I
have been looking around for some information on this, and no where
have I seen that this value is skewed because of virtualisation or
otherwise distorted.

I hope anyone can shed some light (a lot!) on this issue.

VM would show a queue length of 9 (or 10 ?). But, the physical processor
just sees a single VM process using the CPU 100% of the time, it doesn't

Thank you. As I understand, if I run a VM on an 8 core machine (2*4
core) for instance, it would be normal for a Processor Queue Length to
be 8 (or 9), but a queue length average of 11 would not, and regular
spikes up to 40 and superpeaks to 94 would not?

A queue length of 8 or 9 on the host wouldn't tell you much because you
could have 8 VMs which each had a queue length of 50 but, you can't see that
from the host. A queue length of 40 on any machines means you have a very
busy CPU (probably too busy).
