Would anybody mind giving me this same solution but for Red Hat Enterprise 4 ES? I'm a complete Linux newbie I just installed it for the first time on a Virtual Server yesterday and I'm not seeing anybody that got around this or even encountered it in Red Hat only SUSE Linux and the fixes are obviously different. this is what's going on specifically.
Installed fresh RHEL 4 ES virtually, immediately attempted to installed the additions, first attempting
# ./vmadd-install.run all which I got an access denied error
then # rpm –ivh vmadd-full-0.0.1-1.i386.rpm which didn't work either so I installed them all one by one and it installs however when I restart it doesn't load and in the log file I see this
entering directory `/lib/modules/vmadd/module' could not build kernel module, kernel sources are probably not installed: *** [lib/modules/2.6.9-5.EL/buid/Makefile] Error 1
with the scsi log file I see Could not install SCSI kernel module
when I try to remove the rpms it says they're not there and when I try to install them it says they're already installed so I do a --force to make them install and then the logs show what I just typed above. Again I have no idea what hardly any of this means because I'm not a linux experienced person however I know my way around SCO Unix a bit and can do some basic Unix stuff. If anybody knows of a way to assist me in this I would appreciate it.
