How big should the VPC List file be?

I read somewhere that one VPC 7 user was concerned because his file ballooned from 4GB to 9GB after an update. I looked at mine and it's 14.7GB. Could that be why my VCP has slowed to a crawl (see my other question about slowing down after updates)?

Possibly but not to the extent that you described earlier. You will have
some fragmentation of you VPC drive both in VPC and under OSX. It just
depends more on how bad it is under OSX will determine performance.

You can Defrag your Windows drive from within Windows. That's an easy but
maybe time consuming first step. Then I believe through the VPC Drive
Wizard you can shrink the VPC drive back down. If you have an OSX Defrag
utility I would run that. That most likely will take a very long time but
after that is done then drive/file fragmentation will not be your issue any
longer.

Doing a defrag on a Windows virtual machine in VPC will actually
increase the size, not reduce it. VPC grows dynamically (the default
setting) to 15GB and will then slow to an absolute crawl and
eventually will stop responding. The best method of reducing the size
is to use the Precompactor tool that came with VPC for Windows......If
you do a search of this newsgroup for Precompactor, you should find
the article with all of the steps listed and a link to the actual
precompactor tool itself
