Hi all,

In VPC2007 on Vista Ultimate SP1, I am trying to run a VPC image.

I am getting the following error:
"The startup disk cannot be written to.

You may not have sufficient privilege to write to the disk. The
virtual hard disk has been mounted read-only. Most operating systems
cannot boot with a read-only startup disk."

All the files are writable in the host O/S. When I get into the VPC O/
S, if I right click on a folder it is set to Read-Only, which is
greyed out.

I set the permissions on the host folder to Full-Control for all
users.

Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?

The message is referring to the vm's system disk, which is just another
file as far as the host OS is concerned. You cannot really run an OS with
read only set on the system disk.

From the host OS find the .vhd file which is the system disk for the vm
and check its permissions. It will need to have at least "modify" for the
user who is trying to start the vm.
