We use pcAnywhere on Win XP to support our clients. Have just purchased a new
notebook with Vista Ultimate. Installed Virtual PC to run legacy apps and
also the none vista version of pcAnywhere. Also installed and tested WinVNC
as an alternative.
PcAnywhere and WinVNC work locally within the office network but neither
funciton over the internet.
Virtual PC doesn't seem to support Internet Accesss through the host's Lan
adapter and I don't particularly want to enable internet sharing on the host.

can anyone suggest how I should get them working over the internet?

Set the NIC, in the VPC Settings, to "Shared Networking (NAT)" Then
you're VM's should have easy internet access.

As for why PCAnywhere or WinVNC not being accessible outside the LAN,
it's probably a firewall / Nat settings problem.

I run many guests that act exactly like any other PC on the network
and therefore also use the router out to the Internet.
My guests are always set to use the host's network adapter (the
default for a new guest) and get their IP address from the network
DHCP server (at home from my ADSL router and at work from the
Coroprate DHCP server).

What is your network settings for the guest?
