how do I make partition that holds my vhd largrer?

Message:

I recently started using vpc.

My physical HDD drive is 250GB, of which 80GB is devoted to my HOST OS (XP
running on FAT32 primary partition). I used FDISK to create a 16GB FAT32
extended parition (logical drive F) for my vhd. My virtual HDD is dynamically
expanding and only has about 8.5GB in use.

I was surprised to see that the vhd files add up to 13GB. This was right
after I defragged and precompacted the vhd. Is this much overhead to be
expected?

The problem is this: When I try to use the Virtual Disk Wizard to compact
the vhd, I receive msg "not enough available space on physical drive". Opps!

Is there a straightforward way to increase size of a partition and logical
drive without disrupting the data?

Thanks,
David
