Hello:

I posted this question a week ago and am surprised that I have not gotten
any response. Here it goes, again.............

If I install either Virtual PC 2004 or 2007 here on my XP SP2 laptop, my
internet connection (whether LAN or wireless) simply goes away.

Luckily, I am able to resolve this issue with the internet by using the XP
system
restore (even though I lose my install of VPC of course).

But, does anyone know why I cannot have a successful install and use of VPC
without destroying my internect connection? It's weird.

Is there a way that I can have both?

I don't know the answers to any of those questions. All I know is that,
unless the VPC is snatching my IP address away from my laptop, I don't know
why I cannot get on the internet, check e-mail, etc. I have to use the XP
restore point to get rid of the install and therefore get on the internet.

yourself to put other people down, I thought that this was an area that a
layman like me could go to post simple questions and get good answers and
meet people that truly wanna help.

I won't waste my time on this posting any more. Maybe at another posting I
could meet professionals that answer questions rather than ask questions that
are not relevant.

Don't give up, you question is very valid, someone else may figure out
your answer.

All I can suggest from what I've seen so far, is to make sure your NIC
drivers are the latest version, otherwise it's not a very easy problem
to solve.

How are you connecting to the internet, wired connection, or wireless?
Cable modem, DSL?

My quess is that the driver for the network card in your host OS is not
compatible with Virtual Machine Network Services. VMNS must work with the
driver for the NIC to enable networking from the virtual machine.

You could test this theory by going to the network properties of the
host machine (after VPC has been installed) and looking for an entry for
VMNS.

If VMNS is there, clear the check mark from the box. (I would also
reboot). If your host machine's networking comes alive, that is your
problem. Your NIC driver does not like VMNS.

To fix it you will need to find and install an updated driver for your
NIC. When that is installed an working, reinstall VPC.
