Hi,

I am using a Windows PE boot CD to connect to my imaging server. I am
able to successfully restore my XP Ghost image (partition from image)
to the Virtual PC C: drive. The image was built on an ACPI
Uniprocessor desktop and was sysprepped prior to being captured. When
I try to boot the XP enviornment, I simply get a black screen with
flashing cursor. I tried booting from the XP disc to attempt to
repair with the same result. Any idea on how to get the image to
work?

On my first attempt I also had a black screen.
Use Safe Mode (F8) to boot anf if that does not help try booting in "last
good configuration'.
It worked for me.

Just because you sysprepped soesn't mean there won't be hardware issues when trying to start the
virtual machine. Did you use any switches when doing the sysprep command?

He knows that. He said he tried to boot from the XP install cd and do a

He means he used SYSPREP to prepare hi pc for imaging.

He can't even boot from the cd, using F8 isn't going to do him any good.

What he said was when he tries to boot from the just imaged partition, he
gets a flashing cursor, nothing more.

If you only restored the partition, you will remained the MBR record
with untouched.So the simple way is get a WINDOWS98 startup disk and
type "fdisk /mbr",or goto fdisk to activate your partition.Anyway,
restore a whole disk image from Ghost will be the best choice.
