virtual PC to emulate serial and parallel ports

Hi,
I am a scientist purchasing a new tablet PC that runs Vista. We have a piece
of scientific hardware, a Biorad Icycler that has software that will work
only with XP and installs drivers for the serial and parallel ports (I
believe that this is where the incompatibility with Vista lies). I do not
want to actually run the instrument with the tablet, but I want to install a
copy of the software for standalone data analysis. When installing the
program you have the option to select a standalone configuration, but the
drivers are still installed. They are just never used in this mode. I need
this so that data can be copied into Excel. I would also like to copy
portions of the program screen into OneNote. Will virtual PC support this
functionality without effecting the operation of Vista? Thank you for your
help.
