SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a: Out of Memory - with 2GB RAM???

Hi,

in Vista Ultimate/Virtual PC 2007 I've set up my old system (W2k Server, SQL
Server 2000 Enterprise, Visual Studio .NET 2002). Usually this setup works
flawlessly on my physical computers. However, after installing all these
files in VPC2007, I can't run SQL Server SP3a. It terminates immediately.
Opening the file from a command prompt I can read that it can't start because
of insufficient memory.

I've set up the virtual machine to have 1GB, I even tried 2 GB (I've got 4
GB installed).

What's making the service pack setup think that there's not sufficient
memory to do its job?

Do you start the setup from a network share? If yes, try it local.

I had copied the Service Pack file to C:\Temp\ so unfortunately this didn't
seem to be the reason.

It must be in fact some strange MS-DOS kind of thing that's keeping the
program from starting at all.

But I've found another solution now: Searching the Net I've seen that
there's SP4 available. I've downloaded that and it worked.
