Hello,
I have a problem installing hardware driver in guest
VistaUltimate.
The card is a video capture card and it installs fine in Host (same
Windows).
Device Manager shows in:
host :
Device type: Sound, video and game controllers
Manufacturer: Conexant
Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 1, device 6, function 0)

guest:
Device type: Sound, video and game controllers
Manufacturer: Conexant
Location: Unknown

and the Device Status is: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Because the location shown is "Unknown" it looks like guest cannot see PCI
slot?
What else can I try?

Modems are different. As long as they are seen by the host OS as a COM port
you'll be able to use them in the guest.

Apart from the CPU, all hardware inside a virtual machine is emulated and
cannot be changed.

The graphics card emulated by virtual machines is an S3 Trio - the host's
graphics card is irrelevant:

Yes. Because a virtual machine is made of software, not hardware, it's
obviously not possible to remove the case and insert a new expansion card -
what would you connect it to...?

External modems are usually fine so long as they have a serial interface.

Other devices are probably also fine so long as they have either a parallel
or serial interface, or can be shared via standard networking protocols...

It is.

Via virtualisation.

Via emulation.

All virtualisation software supports a minimal set of hardware via
emulation. There are thousands of peripheral devices available for PCs -
virtualisation software couldn't possibly support them all...
