VPC 2007 broken after Vista SP1 install

Message:

Last week, I installed SP1 for Vista (legal from MSDN). I had used
VPC 2007 with great success for a while before installing SP1.

Last night I was trying to use the Microsoft Loopback Adapter to allow
networking the host and guest without a network connection so I could
do work on the road or on an airplane. I could get the host to see
the guest, but not the other way around. So, I decided to uninstall
the loopback adapter, shutdown the VPC and reboot and go back to the
way I had things before and deal with it later.

After rebooting, the guest OS would hang on boot (completely stop
responding). So, I uninstalled VPC and reinstalled and the problem
still existed. I decided to create a new virtual machine from
scratch. Created it and installed XP, started it up and everything
worked. Cool! I thought my problems were done and somehow I screwed
up the VHD file. However, once I installed the Virtual Machine
Additions the guest would hang on boot just like before.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Marc
