Virtual PC on x64 loses main application window

I have come across a strange problem.

I installed latest Virtual PC for x64 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit... worked
fine, setup three virtual sessions, and they continue to work. However, I
can only start and access these virtual sessions from the status icon. I
can not see the main console. If I click on "Show Virutal PC Console" from
the status icon, it shows minimized application on START menu/bar as
running... but when I click to RESTORE... the application "disappears" from
the START minimized state and never displays window. If left in minimized
state, I can mouse over and see the main console in small preveiew form...
but can not interact with the application. I suspect that the main console
has somehow been incorrectly positioned off the screen? I checked under
the START menu... can't find it. Further, I have never connect second
external display nor expanded desktop to another monitor... I can still
start virtual sessions from the status icon... but a nuisance.

Any ideas as to how to correct this issue?

I had tried this idea to MOVE the window with no solution.

I think it has to do with a video driver issue with the HP Notebook... on
x64 platform. The LCD display is controlled by Microsoft default driver,
not HP specific. And settings for 1st monitor show "extend desktop" to
secondary monitor (external display, if connected to laptop VGA port) even
if selected as primary... you can't unselect option to extend desktop. I
am wondering if I should hook-up a second display and see if I can see the
Virtual PC 2007 session there....

I have also noticed that when I come back to the host system (Vista Ultimate
x64), while leaving host session (XPP in this case, latest updates) that my
shortcut keys seem to be auto-enabled. So if I type an "m" it closes my
current window. "b" changes focus, "d" closes window, "f" brings up search
results window, "r" brings up RUN command, "s" search, "t" toggle between
applications, "u" ease of access centre, "x" windows mobility centre. It
appears that my key mappings are somehow changed when back to the host.
Switching back to virtual session is okay and keyboard functions... but
going back to host continually has same issues with shortcuts. Only way I
can find to resolve is RESTART host Vista.

Minor final glitch... sound seems choppy in XPP virtual session. Suspect
sound driver...

Possibly issues with Vista x64 platform?

turns out... I have resolved the problem.

The suggestion to try moving the window with the arrow keys did not work...
and I had followed the steps
Ben (Virtual PC Guy) had suggested in link. I did see some notes re:
editting OPTIONS.xml file.

Here's how I fixed it...

I found the issue occurred when Windows (or HP, laptop manufacturer) update
updated the laptop's display device driver to a new version. Reverting to
the previous driver did not help. I tried usign the various keyboard
shortcuts suggested (ALT-SPACE, arror keys) to move the hidden window but
they did not work. It wasn't until I attached a second monitor (ensured it
was in MIRROR mode versus EXTEND mode) to the laptop and selected MOVE from
the context menu for Virtual PC 2007 (right click item in START menu) that I
saw the mouse pointer in the upper left hand corner... and using the mouse
(keyboard arrows did not work), simply moved the mouse pointer to the lower
right.... and the display re-appeared!

It seems that the settings for the window position may be tied to the
display driver? And if changed, resets beyond or off the desktop. I
suspect the process of editting the OPTIONS.xml file would have resolved the
problem as well.

Just thought you/someone might find useful.

Now to figure out why the audio is choppy in a virtual session... and....
why the host dekstop keys are reset sometimes during an XP Pro virtual
session after it has been re-started... :)
