Access SQL Server on host OS

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc
Sent: 01/11/2008
From: Schmanz
Message:

Needing to do some legacy development support on my new Vista machine in
VS2003; I have enlisted VirtualPC 2007. My databases are set up on the host
OS (using SQL Server 2005 Developer edition w/SP2); and I have opened the
port in the host OS firewall. However, I cannot access the host SQL server
from the guest OS (XP SP2 in this case) using the default networking
configuration (shared networking). I noticed that if I switched the
networking to use my wired adapter things worked. However, sometimes I work
wired and sometime I work wirelessly; it's a pain to have to switch the
networking connection everytime I change the environment. Is there a way to
fix this? The shared networking allowed me to get out to the Internet, but
it didn't seem like it knew where the host os was (couldn't resolve computer
name in pings or likewise).
Thanks,
