Hi, I have virtual pc installed on xp Pro sp2 with a windows 2003
server virtual guest. The guest is configured to use a Nic that only
has VPC services enabled on the Host and isn't used for anything else.

The guest is configured to use DHCP and picks up an IP when using
ipconfig however the guest cant ping the router or any other machine
on the Lan and all other machines cant ping the guest but can ping the
router.

The routers DHCP table picks up the guest ok. The only other thing is
that I'm using Lan over mains plug between the physical machine and
router.

what could be preventing my guest from accessing the internet?

I have myself an ADSL/Router with DHCP on my network and I have set up
my virtual machines to use the single physical NIC of the host machine
as their network interface.
This makes each guest machine get its IP from my ADSL/Router and they
can communicate just fine between each other and with the host.
However, ping must be allowed on W2003, because the Windows Firewall
is by default set to block it...

Have you checked Windows Firewall settings?

Try reconfiguring your installation (temporarily) so that the guest
uses the same physical NIC as the host is useing and see what happens.

LAN, networking must be OK. The ping failures are probably caused by the
firewalls, as you suggest.

Does file sharing work? That is a better test of network connectivity.
